Private Water Well Screening

The Texas Well Owners Network program is coming to Goldthwaite to host a Private Water Well Screening in May. This program will provide well owners the opportunity to have their well water tested for $10. Well owners can pick up sample bottles and instructions from the Mills County AgriLife Extension office, 1011 4th St. in Goldthwaite any time before May 13th. Samples need to be returned to the Extension office between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. on May 13th. A follow up meeting to explain screening results will be held at 6:00 p.m. on May 14th at the Mills County State Bank, 1101 Parker St. in Goldthwaite. Lampasas River Watershed Partnership Meeting

A Partnership meeting will be held on Thursday, May 21st from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building. We will be discussing the progress made in implementing the watershed protection plan over the last year.
Jacki Bakker, the District Technician for the Hill Country Soil and Water Conservation District, will be giving a presentation on the technical and financial assistance that is available to landowners for the development and implementation of water quality management plans in the watershed. The funding for this effort is provided by a Clean Water Act Section 319(h) grant from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board.

Matt Berg, a Research Fellow from Texas A&M will also be on hand to discuss the results from his dissertation and research evaluating historical landscape changes in the Lampasas River watershed from the 1930s to 2012 based upon aerial photographs. Riparian Area Management Workshop

We are, once again, excited to partner with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service , Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the City of Killeen to offer a FREE Riparian Area Management Workshop on Thursday, June 11th from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Parrie Haynes Ranch located at 2419 Gann Branch Road in Killeen. There is no charge to attend these workshops, and all are welcome, pre-registration is required. To register, please contact me, either by phone or email. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered to participants. Lunch will be provided at this program.
